Planted Boxes

These are boxes I have planted.  Some are standard boxes, while others are mystery boxes and traveling boxes (hitch hikers and parasites).  All have been hand carved.  I also have other stamps that I have created posted here.

There are a few general things you should know about all of my boxes:
- No boxes have ink, please bring your own.
- Most parks are pet friendly, but please check with the park before you go.
- Park hours are typically 8AM to Sunset.
- All compass readings are to magnetic north.
- Paces are Roman Paces and counted as two steps (about five feet, give or take).
- Not all boxes are family friendly, and nearly all take you off trail.  Please read the clues before you go and only box to your ability.
- Have fun and be safe.  Please read my waiver of responsibility and disclaimer before setting out.

Coney Island Mermaid
Planted:
Coney Island, NY on June 24, 2006

I went up for a day at Coney Island to ride the rides and enjoy the famously strange Mermaid Parade, so I decided to plant a box in honor of all those wonderful mermaids.  This is one of my tiny micro boxes, and the scanned image here is actually bigger then the real thing.  Lots of photos of the parade can be found HERE.  A trip report is in my Trip Reports section.

Covered Bridge Tour
Planted:
Around Northumberland County, PA on September 26, 2005

This is a series of six boxes.  When the stamps of the six boxes are put together they make one complete image.  The clues for this series will be available soon.

Dollywood Mircobox
Planted:
Pigeon Forge, TN on December 8, 2005

A tiny little stamp in a tiny little box, cleverly hidden inside Dollywood Amusement Park.

UPDATE: This box has been confirmed missing.

This box in planted near the historic Growden Mansion, where it is claimed Ben Franklin did his famous kite experiment.

Gatlinburg Mountaintop
Planted:
Gatlinburg, TN on December 8, 2005

There is a massive elevation gain you must make to get to this box, but it is not as bad as it sounds.

Letterbox Special
Planted:
Douglassville, PA on January 20, 2005

This box is planted in a great little coffee shop and internet cafe.  Go for lunch and be sure to get the tomato soup that they make in the early fall.

UPDATE: This box is retired.

Neshaminy Hitch Hiker Hostel
Planted:
Bensalem, PA on November 13, 2006

An easy box to find where lots of hitch hikers can reside.  Also the first box I have done with permission of the PA State Parks.

"The Devil Made Me Do It!" Letterbox
Planted:
Bucks County, PA on June 6, 2006 (6-6-06)

I decided to be a little clever and plant this box near Devil's Half Acre in Bucks County on the day of the Devil.  It has a bit of a creepy story to it.

The Whip
Planted:
Springdell, PA on February 3, 2007

How can you go wrong when you combine a great tavern with a letterbox.

Mystery Boxes

A Nice View
Planted:
Somewhere in Berks County, PA on August 5, 2005

This is one of my smallest micro boxes.  The stamp is simple because it is about 1/4 inch x 1/4 inch.

Traveling Boxes

Barbed Hook Parasite
Planted:
On Canal House HH

Update: I have received news that this parasite is now somewhere in New Hampshire clinging to the Hoppin' On HH.  Thanks to Mrs. G & Dustee for this report as well as these wonderful pictures of the log thus far:

Pretty in pink.

Other Stamps

2005 LbMA Fall Gathering Event Stamp

This is the event stamp I carved for the fall gathering at Knoebels Amusement Resort on September 24, 2005.  This stamp was actually a lot more complex then it even looks.  The entire stamp is actually four stamps, one for each color, which you stamp together to make a block print and thus the complete stamp.

Bonus Box
Planted:
???

This is a special box that you can only get by finding another box.

Bunny Hunt Series
This is a special series of boxes specifically geared towards the use of DVOA Orienteering Maps, better known as "Bunny Maps"  Each box in the series is going to use a different map.  Some clues will be posted right here, while others you will have to find.  Some hikes will be easy, whiles others will be long treks through the forest.  There will also be special mystery bunny boxes where you will have to figure out what map you are going to need to find the box.

Bunny Hunt: French Creek East

This is the first in the Bunny Hunt series.  Remember, there is more to this box then there seems.  Be prepared to spend a full afternoon on this one.

Bunny Hunt: Mount Penn Pagoda
